Essential Oils for Seasonal Allergies

Are Seasonal Allergies as bad in your neck of the woods as they are in mine this year?  It’s crazy here!  I think it has something to do with the fact that we had a very mild winter without even one good, hard freeze.  Not that I’m complaining… I’ll take a mild winter.  It just wrecks havoc on allergies! 🙂

To help combat the affects of all the pollen and other “stuff” in the air, we’ve pulled out our trusty essential oils.  We find that Lemon, Lavender, and Peppermint Essential Oils work best for us.  We tend to diffuse most of our essential oils, but any of these three could also be applied topically (mixed with a carrier oil like Fractionated Coconut Oil).

Here’s why we like these three oils for our seasonal allergies…..

Lavender – this is one of my very favorite essential oils and was the first one I ever tried.  I use it primarily to help me relax and unwind, but it is also a natural antihistamine with anti-inflammatory properties that help you find relief quickly.  It also can help with those awful sinus headaches that allergy season brings.

Lemon – this essential oil works great to relieve excess mucus and helps to relieve any inflammation that is caused by an allergic reaction.

Peppermint – another one of my favorites, I love Peppermint Essential Oil for its minty aroma, but also because of how great it works to ease breathing.  It’s a soothing oil that also helps ease sinus headaches and inflammation.

Use each of these individually, or if you’re looking for something a bit more potent, mix two drops of each (Lavender, Peppermint, and Lemon) and diffuse.  It works great!
